Open Letter to my 'caring' MP
Your survey (once again printed in a manner highjacking the image of the Party I am proud to belong to) received today, highlights some of the issues I have taken up with you to no avail e g housing standards and the reluctance of my local police to use the Protection from Harassment Act 1998 in respect of ASB from a neighbour.
Last summer after I had complained to your caseworker over the phone [You had decided that I was in a minority of one with my problems - I assure you I have now proved I am not.] the ensuing written retort from you said you had 'helped'* me in the past. That is true but then I voted for you at the time; whereas last May I stood as a Green candidate for the local elections!
*I rather think though that you are paid handsomely for 'helping' your constituents. After all your job description as per the Code of Conduct for Members of Parliament does specify that you are duty-bound to represent each and every one of your constituents. The fact that your caseworker had not even heard of Sir Philip Mawer, Parliamentary Commissioner, just shows how complacent you are.
When do you intend to raise the issue of the treatment of people living in Almshouses in the House?
Information obtained through a request under the Freedom of Information Act shows that the trust administering the Almshouses where I live have not heeded the advice given a year ago by the Charity Commission in respect of the upkeep of these buildings. They have not followed the 'recommendations' from the Environmental Health Officer in respect of implementing Maintenance and Formal Complaints Procedures also made in March 2007 either.
We still have no 24/7 emergency number, no caretaker and dismal response to any problems occurring, which can only be reported during the office hours of the clerk to this trust.
Following a visit from two officers from the Charity Commission this January this trust have been advised to implement the urgent repairs and improve the quality of life of the residents. They are now finally looking into providing heating.
But you are already aware of these issues since I copied to you all relevant emails however, you chose in your lack of wisdom to ignore them.
How many of your constituents have been treated as second-class citizens here on 'your patch' during your many years as our MP?
The plight of the many disenfranchised people in your constituency only stands to highlight the discrepancy in the regulation of such 'charitable' trusts. This government does not wish to consider change, so that's all right then, our needs swept under the carpet as they always have been!
I thought you were from a different party so not having to toe the party line. It appears I was very much mistaken and that you too lack the moral fibre to bring about change!
Why have you not raised this issue in the house to prevent this and other badly administered trusts from carrying on with their bad practice with impunity?
It is highly unlikely that these people are the only ones not caring about their beneficiaries. Why else is the government department loathe to consider change – perhaps scared of opening the floodgates?
In summing up this open letter to yourself; You have failed to act to enforce human rights legislation. We all have the right to enjoy freedom of movement, freedom to enjoy the peace and privacy of our own homes and freedom of association.
We should not have to live behind locked doors in poorly maintained dwellings and in fear of our lives.
PS I'm so sorry, I omitted to mention 'your right to reply'! So please feel free Mr H to post a reply within the next seven days.
